Carterville Illinois, recognized in the region as the "Heart of the Heartland," is a fast growing community conveniently located along the Rt. 13 corridor in Williamson County with a population of 4,616 (2000 US Census).

Carterville is nestled against beautiful Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge and Crab Orchard Lake. It is located midway between Carbondale and Marion, Illinois

Founded in 1967, Carterville is home to John A. Logan College, named after our local politician and Civil War hero, John Alexander Logan and is one of the country’s best community colleges! It has been an accredited community college since 1972 and in 2008, had a total enrollment of 7,364.

Carterville is home to the Tri-C Community School District and uses Attendance Centers for its educational facilities. Pre-K through 4, 5th and 6th, intermediate school for 7th & 8th grades and the high school for 9th through 12th grades. The beautiful new Tri-C community high school opened in August of 2011.
