The Marion square (actually a circle!) is the location of our city government, the memorial to the 1982 tornado and the tower itself which holds up the original bell tower of the courthouse that occupied the circle generations ago. The Marion Cultural Center (background to left) is home to quality concerts and programs provided year round bringing wonderful entertainment to our downtown.
Medical care is provided through the services of Heartland Regional Medical Center, located on the west side of Marion.
Our regional veterans receive passionate care through the Marion VA hospital, conveniently located along Interstate 57 at Main St.
Marion boasts several city parks for outdoor fun and organized sports. Ray Fosse Park, name after local boy turned MLB star, provides the perfect spot for baseball, miniture golf, swimming, picknicking and more! Located in central Marion, it's the place to be all summer long!
Marion is home to the new Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois, constructed and renamed in 2016, providing general aviation training and services as well as commercial flights to and from St Louis via Cape Air Airlines. Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois also is host city of Southern Illinois Honor Flights, providing aging veterans with trips to experience the Washington, DC memorials.
Marion offers a large variety of employment opportunities with some major companies, such as AISIN USA MFG INC. Hundreds of southern Illinoisans call Aisin their workplace home through their Light Metals, Electrical and Manufacturing facilites providing part and components for the automotive industry.
