Welcome to Murphysboro

Conveniently located at the junctions of Routes 13, 127 and Rt 149 in western southern Illinois. It is the hometown of General John Alexander Logan and currently home to 7,970 people (2010 US Census).

Murphysboro is the home of the Apple Festival! It’s the oldest and largest alcohol free festival in southern Illinois. It takes place every year for 5 days on the second weekend after Labor Day. While attending the festival, you can watch stage shows, the queen contest, apple pie eating contests, ride rides at the carnival and so much more!

Here you will find the seventh-oldest park district in the State of Illinois! Its mission is “to provide recreational and leisure time opportunities to our community and surrounding area in unique, beautiful, historic, safe settings”. It offers three parks for picnics, a pavilion for gatherings, a band shell, a playground and a rec center.

Murphysboro, the county seat of Jackson, is full of historic homes, cobblestone streets and friendly faces. Located along the north line of the Shawnee National Forest, this community is less than two hours southeast of St Louis, providing the easiest access anywhere in southern Illinois into the Metro-East region and then a short drive across the river to everything St Louis has to offer.
