Welcome to Herrin, Illinois!

A wonderful family community with a history tied to early days of mining the rich coal fields surrounding it. Located between Carterville and Marion, you'll feel the small town wonder of this lovely town with its population of 12,501 (2010 census).

Herrin High School, home of the Tigers, has an enrollment of 756 students. Total school district enrollment in 2017 was 2,516; so, a sense of small town with a junior college and state university within 15 minutes of downtown. A recently added Herrin Sports complex provides multiple fields for baseball with stadium seating as well as a jogging track.

Herrin Hospital provides hospital services and therapy in conjunction with the Southern Illinois Healthcare system. Continuing it's commitment to all of southern Illinois, the Herrin facility has undergone major facility improvements making it a state of the art facility for the community and beyond.

The annual Herrinfesta Italiana puts Herrin in the spotlight! The event lasts for 5 days in downtown Herrin leading up to its rocking finale on Memorial Day. During this long weekend, you can bring your family for the carnival, the food, a Bocce Ball Tournament, different concerts, the Miss Herrinfesta Italiana contest and so much more! Past, present and even stars of tomorrow grace the stages at this wildly popular spring festival. Everyone in southern Illinois is Italian during Herrinfesta!

Likely due to its rich Italian heritage, Herrin is home to the only catholic school in Williamson county. St Marys provides elementary education in conjunction with Our Lady of Mt Carmel parrish. A brand new facility built in 2017 now supports the many children of all faiths who make this private school their foundation. In addition, many other churches of all faiths provide reflection and a place for community.

The location of Herrin, relative to the coal fields of southern Illinois, give the community a special place in the history of mining in this region. It's storied past does not diminish the sacrifices of so many who have perished mining the black gold of the region and those sacrifices are respectfully displayed in downtown's Coal Miners Memorial.
