Carterville is nestled against the backdrop of beautiful Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge and Crab Orchard Lake. It is conveniently located midway between Carbondale and Marion, Illinois and home to a wonderful 18 hole golf course; aptly named Crab Orchard Golf Course!
Carterville's school system is known as the Tri-C Community School District and serves the communities of Carterville, Cambria and Crainville (hence the moniker Tri-C). 4 Attendance Centers serve our always growing student population. Pre-k through 4, 5th/6th, 7th/8th and 9 through 12 at the high school provide outstanding education and sports opportunities for our student body. The community is most proud of it's beautiful high school complex, which opened in August of 2011.
Carterville is home to John A. Logan College, named after our local politician and Civil War hero John Alexander Logan, and is recognized nationally as one of the country’s best community colleges! It has been an accredited community college since 1972 and has seen continued growth and infrastructure development.
Family activities abound throughout the year thanks to our local Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Lions Club and the many other social and civic organizations that call Carterville home!
This fast growing community, with its historical downtown is conveniently located along the Rt. 13 corridor in Williamson County. A population of 5,496 (2010 US Census) with well over 7,000 when including the adjacent communities of Cambria and Crainville may seem small but this community gets things done in a BIG way!
